'Straight Outta Compton' Trailer Analysis

Straight Outta Compton 'Straight Outta Compton' is an American biographical film directed by F. Gary Gray, depicting the career of a gangsta rap group N.W.A's struggles in their troubled and dangerous society. The trailer was produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Universal Pictures. The film was both a commercial and critical success. It made over $200 million against its budget of $50 million. It became the highest grossing music biopic of all time and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The film made use of digital marketing opportunities. In August 2015 Beats by Dre launched a campaign to pre mote the film. People were encouraged to promote their own town as 'everyone is straight outta somewhere', by creating custom memes. The Mirror is a left wing tabloid owned by Trinity Mirror, which is owned by David Grigson (Chairman of the Board) and Simon Fox (CEO). On this page, we can see the Statue Of Liberty covering her face with the title 'It's president Trump… What have they done?'. This provides a very good headline for the main image. The line 'How Trump triumphed… and what it means for you and the world' provides a good stapling. The fact that the tram crash, that killed 7 people, was treated as a standalone shows the severity go Trump becoming president and the main demographic of those who pick up the paper: they want to see the main image effecting the world over tragedies effecting a specific country or area, showing the effect of proximity. The paper shows a negative connotation of Trumps victory. This could be because the owner of The Mirror is anti Trump and left wing supporting. I Want To Break Free - Queen In Queen's music video for I Want To Break Free, released in the 1984 album 'The Works' of the classic rock genre. We can see how only the music video is filled with iconography, semiotics and representations which can encourage theories.  Firstly, Barthes theory of Semiotics is about signs and signification which are what is seen in the music video, and the meanings we attach to this. For example, this can be applied into this music video in the obvious way which is Freddie Mercury dressing in drag. The meanings that can be attached to this are that it was slowly become more acceptable to be gay or transexual at the time this song was brought out, which was a large deal to Freddie himself, since he was gay. Representation of Ethnicity

Representation of Ethnicity Throughout the media, ethnicity is presented through the use of; stereotypes, otherness, exoticism, tokenism and whitewashing. In some adverts, the ethnic minorities are portrayed as being regular everyday people, without anything that wildly sets them apart from the crowd. However, in others, they can be portrayed as wildly extravagant which pushes the boundaries of racism. For example, in a the skittles giraffe advert, a presumably Jamaican man is portrayed both negatively and positively through the use of exoticism. In the advert, the man is seen as incredibly happy and seems to not have a care in the world; this indicates that the man is an 'uncle tom' figure. The man is on a small island in the middle of no where, and is dressed rather poorly, this portrays another stereotype of Jamaican decent, that they are normally poor, the seemingly agricultural clothing the man wears defends this point.
